The Post-Baccalaureate Program in the Health Sciences is designed
for the college graduate who plans to apply to professional
schools in the health professions, but who needs to take required
science courses prior to beginning the application process.
We offer the following courses, which are required for most
graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, and the other health
science professions:

Fundamentals of Chemistry I and II.
Organic Chemistry I and II.
Fundamentals of Physics I and II.
Calculus.

Cellular and Molecular Biology**.
* Required for physical therapy, physicians assistant,
and chiropractic programs.
** EIectives recommended for medical school preparation.
Courses may be taken over two semesters and one summer or may
be scheduled over several semesters.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be college graduates with a G.P.A. of 3.0 (on
a 4.0 scale) from an accredited undergraduate institution. Three
letters of recommendation (two from undergraduate faculty) must
be submitted, along with official transcripts from all institutions
attended. An interview may be required prior to acceptance.
Students in the Post-Baccalaureate Program are admitted as "special
students" in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science
and are awarded a certificate upon the successful completion
of the program. Full-time students are required to take a minimum
of 12 credits per semester. Students also have the option to
enroll in the program on a part-time basis. Ramapo can offer
this flexibility because the required courses are offered in
the evenings, as well as during the day.
Advisement:
Assistance with the professional school application process
is available. Students in the program must take a minimum of
24 science course credits at Ramapo College and earn no lower
than a "B" in a required course to be eligible for
pre-professional committee support.
Pre-Med/Pre-Health Science Professionals Club:
There is an active Pre-Med/ Pre-Health Science Club on campus.
Students in the program are encouraged to actively participate
in all club activities. Guest speakers representing local medical,
dental, and other professional schools discuss the requirements
of the schools and other professional concerns. The club also
serves as a means for students to interact and discuss items
of common interest.
Internship Program:
An optional health services internship program at Hackensack
Medical Center is offered during the four-week Winter Session
in January.
Application Deadlines:
The deadline for application for admission to the program starting
in the summer is February 15. The fall admission deadline is
May 15.
On-Campus Housing:
A limited number of on-campus residence hall rooms and apartments
may be available for students in the post-baccalaureate program.
This program meets the requirements for application to medical,
dental, osteopathy, podiatry, veterinary, chiropractic, and
physical therapy schools. |
