About the Major
The Contemporary Arts Major is an interdisciplinary
contract major offered through the School of Contemporary Arts.
It is designed to enable students with specialized interests
in the arts, communication, their practices and industries to
work with an advisor and develop a program of study that is
tailor-made to the students' interests and career goals.
While each major is individualized, there have been concentrations
developed in the following areas:
- Integrated Arts
- Cultural Studies
- Arts in Community
- Multimedia
- Arts Management
- Music Industry
- Business Communication
- Advertising and Public Relations
Students in the Contemporary Arts contract major take courses
from a wide variety of disciplines and practices across the
College. The selection of courses, and disciplines, included
in a student's contract depends on the area of concentration.
Particularly common is to combine courses in the arts (literature,
media arts, music, theatre, visual arts), communication (media
studies, writing, audio, radio and television production, speech,
advertising, public relations) business, social sciences (cultural
studies, psychology, sociology, economics) and technology.
This major leads to a B.A. degree. The major requires a minimum
of 33 credits, in addition to the School of Contemporary Arts
School Core. At least 12 credits in the major must be upper
level (300/400). |
