Gerontology Certificate
Program
Ramapo College also offers a Certificate in Gerontology Program
for people not currently enrolled in a degree program or who
already work in the field of gerontology and wish to enhance
their knowledge and skills to become more effective practitioners.
Matriculated students (seeking a degree) must complete the Gerontology
minor.
The course requirements for the Certificate are the same as
the Gerontology minor (see the Gerontology
Minor section of this Catalog).
Since increasing numbers of Americans are living longer, there
is a need for people trained in understanding the complex interaction
between aging and society.
Gerontology, the interdisciplinary study of the social, physical,
and biological dimensions of aging, is concerned with creating
environments for successful aging while maintaining quality
life experiences.
Gerontology is not only an academic area of study, it is also
a field of practice which involves the determination of public
policy issues and the delivery of human services. The study
of gerontology can benefit volunteer or service workers presently
in agencies serving the aged, those considering such careers,
and individuals seeking greater understanding of the aging process
and social condition.
