Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts

The Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts was built in 1999 and named for Russ and Angelica Berrie, benefactors and friends of the College. The Berrie Center is home to several theaters, visual and performing arts studios, galleries, classroom space, and offices for faculty and administration of the College’s School of Contemporary Arts.

In addition to student-centered performances and studies, the Berrie Center has been the venue for more than 20 years of professional stage, dance and musical presentations, concerts, lectures and special campus and Ramapo College Foundation gatherings.

The Sharp & Adler Theaters

Sharp Theater

The Sharp Theater is a 338-seat proscenium theater, featuring a full complement of modern lighting and audio equipment. Movement of scenery is maximized with a full-stage 30 line-set counterweight system. The Sharp Theater is the premier space for larger productions, from Shakespeare to musicals, with complex scenery, lighting, sound and costume requirements. Student actors experience playing to a large audience on a traditional stage. The Sharp Theater also serves as a campus venue for professional music, theater and dance performances.

Adler Theater

The Myron and Elaine Adler Theater is a black box style flexible theater space which seats up to 100. The intimate playing space and audience configuration are changeable, making this a perfect space for experimental and non-traditional productions. The Theater Program produces two smaller productions in the Adler Theater each year and it is the primary venue for student-generated work.

Galleries

The galleries located in and around the Berrie Center are home to changing exhibitions and collections, all of which are free for viewing audiences throughout the year. The Art Galleries are aligned with the School of Contemporary Arts and serve as a fertile resource for the College and area communities. In addition to faculty and senior thesis exhibitions, the Kresge and Pascal Galleries in the Berrie Center present a vibrant, international contemporary exhibition schedule. Ramapo College is also home to the largest concentration of Haitian art collections in any U.S. academic institution, which is continuously presented in the Selden Rodman Gallery of Popular Arts in B-Wing. The Potter Library Galleries showcase Senior Art Prize exhibitions and changing shows by regional artists.

Sculpture Studio

Housed just off campus, the Sculpture studios at Ramapo College encompass three separate buildings, an outdoor sculpture garden, and more than 3,000 square feet of shop space combined. The Sculpture Studio houses equipment to teach workshops in full casting and finishing in bronze, aluminum and iron, metal fabrication, blacksmithing and welding, as well as a ceramic studio with both electric and atmospheric kilns, wood working equipment and a cutting-edge digital fabrication shop with 3D printers, computers, and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment.
