Checkpoint

What is CheckPoint?

CheckPoint is a substance use assessment and education (in-person and/or online) program. It is administered to RCNJ students as a mandated sanction when campus Substance Use Policies are broken.

CheckPoint assessment includes:

  1. Review of the Interim Suspension incident
  2. Substance Use Assessment includes, but is not limited to:
    • Assessment of Substance Use – Current, history, date of first use
    • Frequency of alcohol/other drug consumption per week/month
    • Amount of alcohol/other drug consumed during each event
    • Duration of each event
    • Type of alcohol/other drug consumed
    • History of blackouts
    • Intent to get intoxicated
    • Negative consequences of AOD use
    • Effect on relationships, GPA, class/employment attendance and/or participation
    • Legal issues
    • Family history of alcohol/other drug use
    • Personal concerns regarding alcohol/other drug use

Following an assessment, possible education/treatment options include:

  1. No further education recommended
  2. Referral to eCHECKUP TO GO and/or Cannabis eCHECKUP TO GO  (on-line assessment/intervention followed by an in-person session to review)
  3. Referral to BASICS and/or CASICS – minimum of two in-person sessions
  4. Referral to individual counseling (on campus)
  5. Referral to a higher level of treatment such as Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) or Residential Treatment – referral is dependent on health insurance
