“The education I received at Ramapo College formed the basis for my career in public history. When I matriculated at Ramapo, I planned on leaving there a social studies teacher. However, I realized that I did not want to pursue a career in classroom teaching but I still wanted to do something that involved history. The faculty encouraged me to explore other ways to enter the field and even provided me with guidance beyond graduation. Today, I am the Director of Education and Museum Operations for the Seminary Ridge Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Coursework at Ramapo, in both history and education, taught me the importance of thinking in a historical manner. Critical thinking, perspective-taking and understanding bias are among the hallmarks of historical thinking and are crucial to our current global climate. I have dedicated myself to facilitating others’ learning in this manner in a museum setting. Ramapo faculty also provided me with the encouragement and opportunity to perform original historical research for papers. I have already utilized this training to write published papers.” – Peter Miele ’11 graduated with a degree in History and a certification in Secondary Education. While at Ramapo, Peter made the Dean’s List for seven semesters and was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta in 2009. He is currently the Director of Education and Museum Operations at the Gettysburg Seminar Ridge Museum.
