“My studies at Ramapo College effectively prepared me for the unique academic experience of law school, as well as the stresses and challenges of professional life after that. Ramapo provides the academic rigor to get into the top-ranked graduate programs in the country, and all the tools necessary to excel in those programs.
The most significant resources on campus are your professors. More than any individual class or skill I learned in my time at Ramapo, establishing connections with faculty taught me lessons and opened doors that would otherwise have remained closed. Every member of the faculty is first and foremost a teacher and mentor. If you engage with them, they will do everything in their power to help you succeed. I would not be where I am today without the encouragement and help of Ramapo’s outstanding faculty. Now that I’ve graduated, I am happy to count those same mentors among my acquaintances and friends.” – Jon Mangel ’15 graduated with bachelor degrees in Political Science and Law and Society. He earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2018.
While at Ramapo, Jon was recognized as an Outstanding Student in Law and Society in 2015, received the Faculty-Student Research Award for HGS in 2014 and 2015, and was the Inaugural Editor-in-Chief of The Ramapo Journal of Law and Society from 2014-2015. Jonathan presented his senior Honors Thesis “Putting the Problem in the Crosshairs: Partisan Perceptions of the Causes of Gun Violence” at the Northeast Political Science Association Conference in 2014. His Law and Society thesis, titled “Growing Up Corporate: The Broadening Scope of Corporate Rights,” was published in the Ramapo Journal of Law and Society. He also studied abroad during his 2014 Spring Break with the China Immersion Experience.
After nearly five years in private practice in New York at the international law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton, Jon joined the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, where he works as a Deputy Attorney General, enforcing and defending the civil laws of the state of New Jersey and is thankful that he’s back working on the better side of the Hudson River.
If you’d like to get in touch with Jon about his experiences, please contact the Alumni Relations department at alumni@ramapo.edu to get his contact information. Jon would love the opportunity to speak to prospective Roadrunners.
