“The environment at Ramapo College has allowed me to create projects that bring together all aspects of my job: teaching, scholarship and service to the College and community. My colleagues (faculty and staff) are amazing, smart, supportive individuals with whom I love working. I especially cherish being able to bridge student affairs and academic affairs through my role as Faculty Fellow for Assessment in the Center for Student Involvement.

Working with students on research projects has been the highlight of my time at Ramapo College. Students in my Public Sociologies course gathered three waves of data from RCNJ students about their willingness to intervene to prevent interpersonal violence. In addition to designing and fielding the research, each class created awareness events to inform students about the ways in which they can make everyone on campus safer by taking seriously their responsibility as active bystanders. As a result of working closely with my students on original research, I’ve also been able to secure Ramapo College Foundation grants to take them to national and regional conferences, including the annual Eastern Sociological Society Meeting and American Sociological Association Meeting. At the end of each semester, students in Social Research, Social Statistics, Public Sociologies and Capstone in Sociology courses come together at our Sociology Student Research Symposium to share the results of their research projects.
