“As a Ramapo College undergrad in the year 2018, I have decided to go back for my master’s in social work. As an undergrad I majored in psychology and was a commuter student. I enjoyed my time at Ramapo, which is why I decided to pursue my master’s degree there.
My experience in the MSW program has been awesome. My professors were always available when needed and went above and beyond to assist me in the best way possible. While earning my MSW, I have taken an interest in substance use, which is what led me into taking substance use courses and partaking in the Portugal study abroad trip.
The Portugal study abroad trip was an amazing experience for me. I got to witness firsthand how Portugal implements their decriminalization of substances policies. While in Portugal I got to visit different agencies that help individuals deal with substance use disorders as well as experience the culture of Portugal. Overall, I am happy to have had that learning experience.
Besides the Portugal study abroad program, I also got to partake in the SUDEALS program. Within the SUDEALS program I got to connect with wonderful social workers from different states and meet with my state representative and advocate for my beliefs about the substance use field.
Ramapo’s MSW program has provided me with many learning, experience, and career opportunities. Through the opportunities provided at Ramapo, I am now a full-time social worker in a psych unit at a mental health hospital and a part-time substance use therapist at a substance use facility. I am forever grateful for my experience with Ramapo’s MSW program. Ramapo college was a great experience for me, and I am glad I made the choice to pursue both my undergraduate and graduate degrees here.” – Javonna Clark ’18 ’24 graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s of Science in Social Work.
