The novel coronavirus caused continued disruption in 2021. Ramapo College disbursed a second round of federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund grants, known as Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (HEERF II – CRRSAA), to eligible students. These grants were provided to students and institutions by the U.S. Department of Education.
Recipients could use these grants for “any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.”
Grants awarded under this program were paid directly to students. Grants could not be applied to a student’s Ramapo College account for a current or outstanding balance, and did not have an impact on future financial aid allocations.
Unlike the first round of grants, HEERF II – CRRSAA required institutions to prioritize students with exceptional need.
Grant Amounts & Award Process
All students who received the first round of grants were eligible for second round grants. The Ramapo College Office of Financial Aid calculated the award amount of $850 for each Pell-eligible student, and $507 for all others.
Notifications of award were sent to students’ Ramapo College email. Awards were paid directly to students via electronic refund or check. Grants were made in the spring of 2021.
The College again sought to distribute the funds equitably and compassionately, with a thoughtful and thorough amount calculation process.
