Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship program:

Prepare STEM Scholars for the Future of Education

UP TO FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS AND  $10,000 SALARY SUPPLEMENT SUPPORT

For students that qualify, the program provides up to full tuition scholarships for up to 3 years of undergraduate education.  There is an additional $10,000 salary supplement for the first year of teaching.  For the average Ramapo College undergraduate student, this would be a total award of $55,000.

The Noyce program supports talented STEM undergraduate majors and professionals to become effective K-12 science or math teachers in high-need school districts.

  • Undergraduate STEM majors seeking teacher education certification may get up to three years of scholarship support to complete both their major and teacher certification requirements starting in their junior year.
  • Post-baccalaureate individuals who have previously earned a STEM degree may receive up to one year of stipend support that results in completing their teacher certification requirements.

The Noyce program has a teacher service commitment of all RUN2STEM Scholars to teach for two years in a high needs district for each year of funding received.

The Ramapo Undergraduate Noyce STEM Scholars program, RUN2STEM, is a project that aims to serve the national need of preparing well-qualified and experienced STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) secondary teachers who are committed to teaching in high-need school districts and prepared for the future of education.

These RUN2STEM educators are committed to elevating and promoting the profession of teaching in STEM, instructing in high-need school districts and prepared for the future of education.

What are the STEM majors that qualify?

All students must also be accepted into the Teacher Education program and enrolled in one of the following majors:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering Physics
  • Environmental Science
  • Environmental Studies
  • Mathematics

Why become a high school or middle school teacher?

Teachers in the United States rate their lives better than all other occupation groups, trailing only physicians.

Teachers have flexible summers that they can use to travel, learn, spend time with family and friends, and recharge.

Science teachers report having higher or equivalent overall job satisfaction compared to other STEM professionals.

At year 15, the middle 50% of teacher salaries ranges between $68,000 and $114,000, nationally.

Teachers earn additional pay of $1,000 – $8,000 for optional activities like coaching, running after school clubs, and tutoring.

Who is eligible to become a RUN2STEM scholar?
What is the teaching service commitment?

An individual awarded a scholarship or stipend must serve as a full-time STEM teacher in a high-need school district for a total of two years for each full-year in which a scholarship or stipend was received, to be fulfilled within eight years after completing the STEM baccalaureate program or within four years for a post-baccalaureate student after completing teacher certification.

What is the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program by the National Science Foundation?

The Noyce program supports talented STEM undergraduate majors and professionals to become effective K-12 STEM teachers, as well as experienced, exemplary K-12 teachers to become STEM master teachers in high-need school districts. It also supports research on the effectiveness and retention of K-12 STEM teachers in high-need school districts. Project Goals

  1. Increase the number of students pursuing secondary certification in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, and earth science at RCNJ by 50%, to a total of 45 graduates with STEM secondary licensure over the five-year funding period
  2. Prepare 16 Noyce Scholars to teach STEM in a high-need school district
  3. Graduate 16 Noyce Scholars who are committed to teach in a high-need school district
  4. Train current and future STEM teachers on how to use AI and other technological advancements in the classroom
  5. Develop a course plan for students transferring from Bergen Community College who will complete their secondary licensure at Ramapo College within three years.
