Dr. Narges Sarrafan ’10 TAS Scholarship

Dr. Sarrafan earned her BS in Biology from Ramapo College in 2010. She then attended Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Sarrafan was the recipient of the Jackie and Paul Garber Scholarship during her senior year at Ramapo. She created this scholarship to give back to the College and to help other students in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science (TAS) achieve their dreams.

2024 Recipient

Maral Celikel

Maral Celikel of Montvale, N.J. is a Biology student in the accelerated physical therapy program with a 3.24 GPA.

During her time at Ramapo, Maral has been active in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health Club and the Biology Club, as well as secretary of the Armenian Student Association. 

Maral has served as an intern and physical therapy aide at the Spine and Health Center of New Jersey and worked as a crew member at her local Chipotle. Maral is most proud of working alongside different medical professionals at her internship during high school which lead her in the direction of her future career as a physical therapist.

After graduation, Maral hopes to attend graduate school to receive her doctorate in physical therapy.



2023 Recipient

Merit Kayastha

Merit Kayastha of Bhaktapur, Nepal is a junior majoring in Bioinformatics. He has a 3.8 GPA, and has been consistently listed on the Dean’s List.

At Ramapo, Merit has been actively working in a number of organizations, including Data Science Club and International Student Organization. He is the Co-founder and the Treasurer for the recently established Data Science Club. Merit is currently working as an Instructional Design Student Aide at Ramapo ITS, where he trains faculty members to use relevant instructional technologies including Canvas, WebEx, Yuja and Lockdown Browser. After graduation, Merit hopes to work in the field of pharmaceutics and drug design.



2022 Recipient

Christine Sae

“This scholarship enables and motivates me to pursue my dreams to eventually be able to give back to my community and I am so grateful,” says Nursing major Christine Sae.

She has a 3.46 GPA and is a part of Ramapo’s College Honors Program and also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She is currently President of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and also served as a peer mentor for the Nursing Student Organization. As a first-generation student, Christine aspires to be the first in her Ghanaian family to graduate college with a Nursing/ BSN degree in America and also become a nurse practitioner in the future.

At Ramapo, Christine has been active in Leaders in Service, which promotes civic engagement in the community and served as a peer facilitator. She has also been a part of Residence Life and served as a Resident Assistant at the College Park Apartments. Christine works as an assistant teacher at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Children’s Ministry located in Maywood, NJ. She is also a part of the All Stars Network, located in Newark, NJ, which works with inner-city youth in developing career paths.

She is from Little Ferry, N.J.



2021 Recipient

Kristin Weikl

“I have wanted to become a nurse for as long as I can remember,” says Kristin Weikl. The Ridgefield, N.J. resident has a 3.51 GPA and is in Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.

Kristin is involved in Leaders in Service, Residence Hall Council, the Nursing Student Organization, and Sigma Delta Tau sorority. She has held numerous leadership positions. Off campus, she enjoys helping others and being involved in her community as a lifeguard.

After graduating with her B.S. in Nursing, she plans to pursue a nursing career and further her education in graduate school.



2020 Recipients

Yuval Ashkenazi

“One of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had is tutoring a boy on the autism spectrum. I was able to see how much our lessons benefited him both academically and mentally. Seeing the excitement on his face means to me more than words can express. He proved to me that anything is possible if you work hard enough, and it only takes a little creativity and love to change someone’s life,” says Yuval Ashkenazi.

Yuval is from Closter, N.J. and a Computer Science major. He has been involved in the Israeli Scouts. After graduation, Yuval hopes to work in a leading high-tech company in software development.

Amy Jaglowski

Amy Jaglowski of Dunellen, N.J. is a Nursing major. She has a 3.61 GPA, is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, and is a Dean’s Scholarship recipient.

At Ramapo, Amy is active in Leaders in Service, S.A.I.L., the Nursing Student Organization, Ramapo Readers and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. She works off campus as the head counselor at a youth theater camp, serving as a teacher and stage manager. Upon graduating from Ramapo College with a BSN, she plans to attend graduate school to earn an MSN.
