PRESENTERS: Alieta Eck, Todd A. Edelson, Dr. Glenn B. Gero, Alexandre OlbrechtAlieta Eck, M.D.

Dr. Eck graduated from the Rutgers College of Pharmacy and the St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. She studied Internal Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. and has been in private practice with her husband, Dr. John Eck, M.D. in Piscataway, N.J. since 1988.
In 2003, Dr. Eck and her husband founded the Zarephath Health Center, a non-government free clinic for the poor and uninsured that currently cares for about 300 patients per month utilizing the donated services of volunteer physicians and nurses.

Dr. Eck was the 2012 President of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons and serves on the board of Christian Care Medi-Share, a faith-based medical cost-sharing ministry. She has testified in Congress before the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress in 2004 about better ways to deliver medical care in the United States. In 2011, she testified before a Senate Health Committee chaired by Senators Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul– about ways to avoid non-urgent visits to the emergency rooms.

Todd A. Edelson, PT, DPT, Dip. MDT
Montclair Physical Therapy

Physical therapist Todd Edelson, a leader in the clinical use and teaching of the ‘McKenzie Method®’ of physical therapy
in the United States, has been licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey since 1982. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in the biological sciences from Ohio Wesleyan University and Montclair State College, respectively; earned his post-graduate certification in physical therapy at the University of Pennsylvania; completed a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree at Massachusetts General’s Institute for Health Professions, and completed the McKenzie Institute Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Dip. MDT) in 1994. He has been on the faculty of the McKenzie Institute (a healthcare research and education institute based in New Zealand) since 1999, and has provided the McKenzie Diploma clinical residency program to more than 25 physical therapists who now practice around the globe. He has treated more than 15,000 patients over the course of his career.
Edelson’s physical therapy practices in New York and New Jersey are the metro region’s only Certified McKenzie Clinics.
The McKenzie Method® is a system of healthcare that, through a distinctive evaluation, treatment and education process, empowers patients suffering with spine and other musculoskeletal pain to heal themselves and manage or prevent future episodes of pain.

Dr. Glenn B. Gero, N.D., D.Sc., M.Sc., R.H. (AHG), M.E.S., C.L.C.

Dr. Gero is a board-certified naturopathic doctor with a doctorate in nutrition, an MBA and a master’s degree in botanical medicine. He possesses seven nationally recognized fitness certifications, including that as a medical and post-rehabilitative exercise specialist and has certifications as a mind-body, lifestyle medicine and biofeedback specialist and is a certified holistic life and wellness coach.

He has completed extensive post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School including training at the Joslin Diabetes Center, the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine and the Herbert Benson Institute of Mind Body Medicine. He is a professional member
of the Harvard Medical School Post-Graduate Association and has been in practice for more than 20 years at the Holistic Naturopathic Center, which is located in Clifton, N.J.

Alexandre Olbrecht, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Economics, Ramapo College of New Jersey

Professor Olbrecht teaches the health economics curriculum and is also the Executive Director of the Eastern Economic Association based at Ramapo College. A labor economist by training, he mainly writes sports economics and economic education literature. His research has appeared in The Journal of Human Resources, Contemporary Economic Policy, Economics of Education Review, The Eastern Economic Journal, the Journal of Student Financial Aid, and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. His column predicting the performance of drafted quarterbacks has been a mainstay on footballoutsiders.com for the last few years. Professor Olbrecht’s appointments include serving on the downtown re-zoning steering committee for the City of Yonkers and he has also served as Treasurer of the Yonkers, N.Y. Public Library System.
