Policy

Students who transfer to Ramapo College with at least 48 credits from an accredited institution of higher learning but without a completed associate of arts or associate of science degree, and returning Ramapo College students with at least 48 credits on their Ramapo transcript, are waived from some general education requirements.

 

Reason for Policy

To delineate the process whereby students who transfer to, or who reapply and re-enroll at, Ramapo College with at least 48 credits, are waived from some general education requirements, and to identify the requirements that may be waived.

 

To Whom Does The Policy Apply

All Ramapo College faculty, staff, and students.

Procedure

General Education Requirements for Transfer and Returning Students 

According to the State-Wide Transfer Agreement that was signed on December 13, 2006, “An A.A. or A.S. degree from a N.J. community college will be fully transferrable as the first two years of a baccalaureate degree program at NJ four-year institutions.” Students who transfer to Ramapo College with an A.A. or A.S. degree from a N.J. community college should refer to Policy 300-FF Transferring Academic Credit for more information.

Students who transfer to Ramapo College without an A.A. or A.S. degree from a N.J. community college but with at least 48 credits from an accredited institution of higher learning, and returning Ramapo students who have at least 48 credits on their Ramapo transcript at the time of re-enrollment, are waived from the following keystone courses in Ramapo College’s general education curriculum:

  • First Year Seminar
  • Global Awareness
  • Historical Perspectives
  • Social Science Inquiry
  • Studies in the Arts and Humanities

Students who transfer to Ramapo College with at least 48 credits from an accredited institution of higher learning, and returning Ramapo students who have at least 48 credits on their Ramapo transcript at the time of re-enrollment, must fulfill the following Ramapo College general education requirements:

  • Critical Reading and Writing 102
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Scientific Reasoning

In addition, these students must take one course from two of the following distribution categories at Ramapo College:

  • Culture and Creativity
  • Values and Ethics
  • Social Systems and Society

During academic advisement, students will be advised of any applicable waivers of general education requirements as well as any remaining general education courses that they must complete to fulfill Ramapo College’s degree requirements.
