Policy

Faculty may teach academic courses over and above their regular (“in-load”) course assignments during the fall and/or spring semesters as an overload assignment.

 

Reason for Policy

This policy ensures the effective use of resources in order to provide high quality instruction for our students and that neither the quality of instruction nor the quality of effort toward primary responsibilities is diminished when assuming these teaching assignments.

Procedure

TEACHING OVERLOAD

Policy Statement 

Faculty may teach academic courses over and above their regular (“in-load”) course assignments during the fall and/or spring semesters as an overload assignment.

 

Overload Teaching Procedure

  • Although teaching overload assignments are based on program delivery need and are at the discretion of the respective Dean, approval of teaching overload assignments is at the discretion of the Provost (or designee).
  • Teaching overload is voluntary and compensated in accordance with State of New Jersey, Council of State College Locals, AFT.
  • Summer and winter session assignments are excluded from the limitations set forth in this procedure.

Faculty 

  • Teaching overload assignments shall not exceed one (1) course per semester/term or up to four (4) credits for any full-time faculty member except to address emergency situations in each of the fall and spring semesters.
  • Faculty who accept out-of-school teaching overload assignments must first receive approval from their respective Dean (i.e., the Dean of the school in which their primary Convening Group resides).
  • Faculty reassigned from teaching responsibilities in the fall and/or spring semester will not be eligible to participate in teaching overload in that same semester(s).
  • Faculty may teach graduate courses within their regular contractual workload or as overload at the discretion of their respective Dean (i.e., the Dean of the school in which their primary Convening Group resides).
