Procedure 202

The Board of Trustees delegates to the president authority to make conditional appointments to faculty and unclassified staff subject to nomination by the President and appointment by the Board of Trustees.

College Officers and Senior Administrators

Notwithstanding this general grant of authority, no college officer (provost and vice president level) or senior administrator (associate vice presidents, vice provosts and deans) shall be appointed in any capacity without nomination by the president and appointment by the Board of Trustees. At the conclusion of a regular authorized search for college officers and senior administrators the president shall seek approval from the Board of Trustees prior to making an offer of appointment.

Faculty and Unclassified Staff

At the conclusion of a regular authorized search for a faculty or unclassified staff appointment, the appropriate vice president will forward to the President a recommendation accompanied by all necessary recruitment, appointment description, and affirmative action documents.

The recommendation will be based on a review of the recommended candidates’ qualifications and preparedness for the appointment, the need for the appointment, the relationship to the College’s mission and strategic plan, the appropriateness of the appointment in light of programmatic needs, and the effect of the appointment on the College’s overall salary program, and the relationship of the appointment to the College’s diversity initiatives.

The president will review supporting documents, and where the President’s judgment is that the appointment is warranted, they may use their authority to make a conditional appointment subject to nomination by the President and appointment by the Board of Trustees. The president shall bring the nominations to the attention of the appropriate committees of the Board and the full body of the Board at its next scheduled meeting.
