Class of: 2025
Major/Minor: Nursing major, Substance Use Disorders minor
Resident/Commuter: Resident
Favorite Class: My favorite courses thus far have been Professor Butryn’s Anatomy and Physiology Lab I & II. Anatomy classes might be difficult and time-consuming, but they are also immensely fascinating from a scientific standpoint. Understanding how the body functions on an anatomical level has been nothing short of interesting. In the lecture, you can learn about the physiology and the parts of the human body, but in the lab, you can put that knowledge to use. We’ve had the opportunity to take part in the dissection of multiple sheep organs in the lab, including the heart, kidney, eye, and brain. While studying these characteristics in class is one thing, it is a unique experience to see them with the naked eye. The courses are made even better by Professor Butryn’s engaging teaching style and sense of humor.
Favorite Place on Campus: The Learning Commons and the Grove are two of my favorite spots on campus. The Learning Commons is a great place to study and finish assignments. When it comes to a student’s preference, they have many floors with study rooms and various seating options. White boards are another excellent study tool that are accessible. Even if it’s just to catch up on work or study together, I enjoy spending time there with my friends and classmates. I enjoy the Grove in the Spring because you can always spot a familiar face seated at a table or in a lawn chair! I always look forward to finishing my work and spending time with friends on the Grove as the weather begins to warm up.
Clubs/Organizations: I am a part of the Ramapo College Dance Company, Alpha Phi Omega, Ramapo College Concert Band, and the Nursing Student Organization in addition to Peer Facilitation.
Future Plans: This summer I will be participating in a nurse externship where I will have the opportunity to shadow a nurse on a unit to gain more clinical experience. Post graduation I hope to work in a hospital on a pediatric unit or possibly become a school nurse. After that, I intend on furthering my education with the goal of earning a higher level degree that will allow me to work as a nurse practitioner.
Favorite Inspirational Quote: “You can’t do anything to change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” – C.S Lewis
Advice for First-Year Students: No matter how cliche it seems, be engaged on campus! Affiliate yourself with as many clubs and organizations as possible. It will begin to seem like home as you grow more at ease on campus. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone, but most importantly, be yourself!
