Favorite Class: My favorite class is Latinx: Crossing Borders with Erick Castellanos! This class has been one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. It’s about the social and cultural forces shaping how Latinx youth define themselves within a multicultural society. As a first-generation Mexican-American student, I’ve gone through many obstacles, physically and mentally. This class has helped me heal slowly and understand different perspectives.

Favorite Place on Campus: My favorite place is the seating area by the common grounds in the Library. I’m always there doing work and chatting with friends. To me, this is a safe place where I feel like I can get work done.

Future Plans: My future plans are to hopefully get my master’s degree in order to work in higher education. I really do enjoy helping others and I don’t say that just to say that, it’s something that I enjoy doing. After all that I have done, it has led me to a career I never knew I wanted.

Campus Involvement: I have been part of the Orientation Program for about 2 years! I’m also part of the executive board of the American Cancer Society and the Association of Latinos Moving Ahead!
For me, the American Cancer Society means so much because we raise money for Cancer research!

Favorite Inspirational Quote: “Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”

Advice for First-Year Students: It’s okay to be nervous! We all were at some point and some of us still are. College is a whole new world, it will give you great memories, and great friends. Get involved!!! It can be scary 100% and it may take some time to put yourself out there but it will be worth it!
