Career Development & Resources for Students with Disabilities

Students are encouraged to explore their interests and abilities to develop a clear career development plan. The resource list below includes job and internship sites that you can apply to, as well as, resources relating to handling disclosures and workplace accommodations.

Current OSS students are encouraged to schedule a consultation appointment with the OSS Career Liaison Sonia Doyle, who can help you explore your career goals and connect you with your assigned Career Advisor at the Cahill Career Center.

Integrate is a non-profit that helps employers identify, recruit and retain professionals on the autism spectrum. Specialisterne

Specialisterne works with businesses to tap into the talents of autistic or neurodivergent job seekers. Specialisterne works with those who self-identify as being autistic or neurodivergent. For Specialisterne, this includes self-identification with the following: Autism (including Asperger’s and PDD-NOS), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Learning Disability (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia), Intellectual Disability, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Tourette Syndrome.

JAN provides free consulting services for all individuals, regardless of employment status. New York Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation

New York Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) – New York State ACCES-VR starts with the presumption that all individuals with disabilities can benefit from vocational rehabilitation services and should have opportunities to work in jobs integrated within their communities.  Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors guide individuals through service programs they need to reach their employment goal.

AmeriCorps Teaching Fellowship Program: Seeking Candidates for 2024-2025

Through the AmeriCorps GO Fellow program, you will serve in the program’s partner school in select cities along the East Coast (Newark, NJ is closest to Ramapo), all of which share the GO foundation mission and values. The key responsibility of Fellows is to provide daily small-group instruction to students in Math and/or English language arts and support students’ social-emotional growth during the school day. Community Health Law Project (CHLP) – Paralegal Advocate Internship Program: Open Enrollment 

The Community Health Law Project has partnered with OSS to provide a paid internship opportunity through their Paralegal Advocate program. CHLP is seeking OSS Students interested in Law, Advocacy and Social Welfare. The program is open to a variety of majors, with a flexible start date and schedule.

Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

The Office of Specialized Services is a participant in the Workforce Recruitment Program.

About the Workforce Recruitment Program

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense, is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and select private-sector employers with highly motivated college students, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships or permanent jobs.

Who Can Apply?

Students and recent graduates from Ramapo College can apply to WRP if they:

  • have a disability and are eligible under the Schedule A hiring authority
  • are a U.S. citizen or national (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island)
  • are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program on a substantially full-time basis
  • have graduated with a degree on or after April 1, 2022.

New and returning WRP applicants must register and complete an application each year to continue to participate.  Student registration will open on August 26, 2024.
