Our objective as the Black Student Union is to unite all the Black, Latino, Asian, and other ethnicity families to spread diversity, maintain, and promote active communication and interaction between all students, faculty, and staff on campus. The Black Student Union is the umbrella of the following clubs including Brothers Making a Difference, Ebony Women for Social Change, Organization of Latino Unity, and Students of Caribbean Ancestry.
Each organization is to create, educate, and empower an environment that promotes the mission of the Black Student Union (through the use of a office or center when applicable), to encourage the involvement of African Diaspora in mainstream campus activities and arrangements, to support the incoming students as they integrate into the campus environment, and to keep communications with other BSU members on and off campuses and universities.
Ebony Women for Social Change (EWSC):
President: TyYanna Johnson; tjohnso8@ramapo.edu
Ebony Women for Social Change strives to make social change happen, while providing a fun and friendly environment for members. The organization’s purpose is to support members as they work to better themselves socially, academically and spiritually. Weekly meetings are held to discuss business and plan multiple events that promote African ancestry and provide opportunities to socialize. In addition, the members of Ebony Women for Social Change will strive to empower all women to stand up for their rights and speak up.
Brothers Making a Difference (BMAD):
President: Taiyon Ankrah-Jones; tankrahj@ramapo.
Our programs are geared towards making social and educational change to the Ramapo. Be mindful that our organization is not limited to men or people of color. Everyone no matter what background are welcome to encourage and support while we strive to make a difference!
Organization of Latino Unity (OLU)
President: Brianny Mejia; Bmejia@ramapo.
OLU was created to unite students of diverse Latino heritages. This organization allows Latinos to come together and celebrate their similarities. OLU also serves as the political voice for Latino student issues and as a support system for students by creating an environment where they can work together to bring the Latino experience to Ramapo. Members seek to provide everyone on campus with an opportunity to learn about the Latino culture.
Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SOCA):
President: Samantha Jones; Sjones9@ramapo.edu
S.O.C.A’s purpose is to promote a better understanding of Caribbean people, culture, history, and politics to the entire student body via weekly meetings and program.
