Students in the accelerated and generic nursing programs spend a large amount of their clinical time at The Valley Hospital which is designated as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Our clinical partnership with The Valley Hospital allows for professional interaction with the nursing staff at all levels of practice.
Other clinical affiliates include other local magnet hospitals: St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and Hackensack Meridian Health Network. We also have affiliations with local community agencies such as New Bridge Medical Center, Valley Home Care, Township of Garfield, Bergen County Department of Public Health, and many others.
Please note: Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the clinical sites.
Faculty select and monitor the clinical facilities used for students’ learning experiences. These partnerships allow the students to work primarily within recognized centers of Excellence in Nursing. Other health care facilities are used dependent upon course objectives and students’ learning needs. The facilities include acute care institutions, long-term care facilities, community health agencies, outpatient/ ambulatory care settings, professional organizations and occupational health/industrial sites. The clinical sites provide students with the experiences that enable them to develop the knowledge and skills required to meet their respective program’s outcomes.
Students work with faculty and preceptors (where appropriate) to plan their experiences in order to achieve course objectives. In the generic baccalaureate programs, clinical associate faculty and faculty direct and oversee students’ performance in the clinical area.
Evaluation of clinical facilities is done on an ongoing basis by the students and the faculty.
