Students in the generic nursing program spend a large amount of their clinical time at The Valley Hospital which is designated as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Our clinical partnership with The Valley Hospital allows for professional interaction with the nursing staff at all levels of practice. Clinical affiliates include other local magnet Hospitals: St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Hackensack University Medical Center; as well as local community agencies: Valley Home Care, Township of Garfield, Bergen County Department of Public Health among others. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the clinical sites.
The NSO informs underclassmen about the nursing field and provides them with advice about classes and good study habits. They plan informative and social events for all nursing students. The organization sponsors the Sierra Leone Awareness Event, which raises awareness and money for residents of the impoverished country. Ramapo College nursing students also can spend time each summer in West Africa practicing medicine. NSO is also active in on-campus fundraisers for breast cancer and the Adopt-a-Soldier program.
Sigma Theta Tau International, Ramapo College chapter, is the honor society of nursing and recognizes students with outstanding achievements in nursing. The mission of the organization is to support the learning and professional development of nurses worldwide. Conferences, lectures, and career networking events are hosted by the organization throughout the year. Students are invited to apply once they earn a GPA in the Nursing sequence.
