Professor James Gillespie Named Finalist for Mahoney-Neumann-Room Prize

James Gillespie, professor of mathematics in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science, has been named one of three finalists of the 2022 Mahony-Neumann-Room Prize for his research titled “AC-Gorenstein Rings and Their Stable Module Categories” published in the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society. “I just love to work on math problems, to continue to learn things in my field, and the excitement of occasionally discovering something new. It is something I would do anyway, so for others to recognize it and find it helpful is unexpected but validating,” says Gillespie. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the Australian Mathematical Society’s research publications, and is named after the founding editors of those journals.
