MAHWAH, N.J. – Ramapo College is coordinating several events to offer support for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Nepal.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Sharp Theater of the Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts, followed by a candlelight vigil at the Arch, located on the campus.
An outdoor concert, sponsored by the College Programming Board and the Student Government Association, will be held on Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Bandshell with proceeds to benefit those impacted by the tragic events in Nepal and northern India. Admission for students is free but donations are encouraged.
In addition, the Student Government Association, Counseling and Health Services, the Office of the Provost, the Roukema Center for international Education and other departments are coordinating support groups, summer housing provisions and fundraising efforts.
Ramapo College President Peter Mercer met with 18 Nepalese students earlier this week to extend the College’s support.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the people of Nepal and northern India who have lost family and friends in the recent devastating earthquake,” said President Mercer. “The breadth of devastation and loss that the country and its residents will continue to endure for some time is a source of great distress to them. It is incomprehensible to so many of us.”
For more information on any of the College’s efforts in response to this tragedy, please contact Ben Levy, Director of the Roukema Center for International Education, at blevy1@ramapo.edu or 201-684-7533.
