MAHWAH, N.J. High school juniors and seniors are invited to enroll in Ramapo College’s new Introduction to Photography pre-college course that begins this fall. Enrollees who successfully complete the course earn three (3) Ramapo College academic credits that are also transferable as elective credit at most higher education institutions. The course runs Friday evenings, September 8-December 15, 2017 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Ramapo College’s state-of-the-art Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts.

This specially created photography course for high school students combines the foundational skills taught in a sampling of 200 level Visual Arts courses that are required in Ramapo College’s Photography concentration. Working hands-on in the Shooting Studio, and in the Darkroom and Digital Lab, students in this broad-based course receive a solid foundation in film, digital and studio photography. Students also learn to edit images in Photoshop.

Class time incorporates three teaching methods: monitored studio time, group critiques, and class lectures on photography themes and history. The course structure is designed to encourage students to thrive on creativity and participation. Students are asked to arrive each week eager to learn new skills and provide one another with constructive feedback to enhance learning. No prior photography experience is required.

Successful completion of this course supports college applications by showing that students are able to complete college level work. This course appears on a student’s college transcript and, with a grade of “C” or better, earns students three (3) credits at Ramapo College. Most higher education institutions will also accept the course as transfer credit (check with individual institutions).

The course instructor is Adjunct Professor of Photography, Eva Fazzari, a New Jersey-based artist and educator who serves as Ramapo College’s Photography Lab Supervisor. Her past group exhibitions include Some Place Like Home at Daniel Cooney Fine Art, Pause at Foley Gallery and Photography Sampler, Ramapo at Ramapo College of New Jersey. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in 2009 and participated in Pratt’s 29th Annual Graduate Symposium. She was the recipient of the Pratt Circle Award for Distinction and Excellence in Academic Achievement. In 2016, her series, Freeway, documenting canine freedom transport, received 1st Place in the Editor’s Choice Awards at CENTER in New Mexico and a Director’s Choice Award at Midwest Center for Photography in Kansas. In 2017, her series, From Ashes, documenting burnt homes and people displaced by fire, was also exhibited at Foley Gallery.
