MAHWAH, N.J. — The Open Door Concert Series at Ramapo College continues on Saturday, April 2 at 7 p.m. with the second of three concerts for the Spring 2016 season highlighting Russian music of the last 150 years.
The first half features a journey with the evocative melodies and sounds of Alexander Borodin’s music – his famous “In the Steppes of Central Asia” followed by the sweet and melodious String Quartet no. 2. The wonderful Gabriel Chamber Ensemble from Pennsylvania is returning to the Series to perform this magnificent work.
The second half will feature works by Dmitri Shostakovich whose music embodies the cataclysmic events of the last century and reflects the depths of the Russian soul. Cellist Jeffrey Shah and pianist Itay Goren will perform the lyrical Cello Sonata and the concert will end with the Waltz No. 2 from the Jazz Suite.
The Open Door Concert Series will take place in the York Room at the Birch Mansion on campus. Admission is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 and seating is limited. Refreshments will be served following each performance.
