MAHWAH, NJ—A new Brazilian Percussion Camp for high school students is being offered at Ramapo College this summer. Families are invited to an Information Session to meet with the camp instructor, Amarildo Santos Costa, a percussionist and music instructor from the City of Salvador in Bahia and Ramapo College’s director of the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble. Upcoming Information Sessions led by Mr. Costa are scheduled on Thursday, March 23, 7-7:45 p.m. in BC-206 and Sunday, May 21, 5:30-6:15 p.m. in H-129.

The new Brazilian Percussion Camp is a high-energy class that explores the exciting polyrhythmic musical styles of Brazil through percussive instruments and call-and-response singing and movement. Students master several polyrhythmic pieces representing different musical genres and learn about the rich cultural background of these Brazilian musical traditions. The program is designed to strengthen students’ confidence, improvisation and performance skills.

Additional summer 2017 camp programs at Ramapo College for high school age youth include Art Portfolio Preparation, CompTIA A+ Computer Camp, Financial Literacy/Stock Market Trading Program, Game Design for Teens, Numerical Analysis Camp, Programming/Data Science Camp, Ramapo Explorers-Theater Camp, SAT Prep Plus College Immersion, and a 3-credit online Web Site Development pre-college course. The Ramapo College of New Jersey summer academic and theater programs for high school students are directed by the College’s Center for Innovative and Professional Learning.
