MAHWAH, N.J. – Filmmaker Melissa Donovan will screen and lead a discussion of her film, Zemene, at Ramapo College on Monday, October 19, from 1 to 2:50 p.m. This presentation, taking place in the Alumni Lounges (SC-156/57) of the Robert A. Scott Student Center, is free and open to the public. Funded through the College’s Platinum Series, this event is co-sponsored by the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the Communication Arts’ Cinematheque Series.
Donovan will discuss her multiple roles as director, editor, cinematographer and producer of her award-winning premiere documentary. The renowned cinematographer’s diversified experience, spanning over her 15-year career, has included work in film and commercial production for various corporate clients.
Zemene follows a young Ethiopian girl’s bravery as she struggles with poverty, poor education and illness. Filmed throughout the countryside of Ethiopia, Zemene attests to the power of compassion by following Zemene through a series of life-changing events. The film has received eight awards, including Best Documentary and Best Filmmaker, from several local and international film festivals.
