(Mahwah) – Alumni Redux 2, an exhibit of sculptural works by Ramapo College of New Jersey alumni Mimi Weinberg and Matt Jacobs, will open with a reception Wednesday, April 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Pascal Gallery at Ramapo College. An artists’ talk is scheduled at 6 p.m. This is the second in a series of alumni art exhibitions to be held in Ramapo’s Berrie Center. The exhibit runs through May 3.
Weinberg’s installation, Site:Sight, Views After the Dead Sea, is in two parts. Sight is a panoramic desertscape, a wall piece composed of images painted in watercolor on plaster block. Parts of the view are specific areas of the Dead Sea region near Ein Gedi; other areas follow its western coast. Site is a corresponding collection of sculptured objects based on the fragments of household goods and architecture often found in archeological dig sites.
Weinberg earned a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her work has been the subject of recent shows at the Denier Gallery and the Art Collective Gallery, both in Minneapolis. She teaches at Montclair State and Seton Hall universities.
Matt Jacobs will exhibit two sculptures, “Together By Yourself” and “Thinking Small, Acting Big,” in bronze, cast iron and stainless steel, and displayed on pedestals. He describes his work as an attempt to unite wisdom and action. Jacobs is a past recipient of Ramapo College’s Senior Art Prize. His work has been the subject of two exhibits at the Paterson Museum, one group show and one solo exhibit. He received a B.A. in visual arts from Ramapo.
