(Mahwah) – Jazz at The Berrie Center presents Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage, featuring Harry Allen on saxophone, Saturday, January 19 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater. Brazilian Voyage infuses bossa nova with a new spirit.
Nilson Matta has long been considered one of Brazil’s best bass players. Since his arrival in New York in 1985, he has performed and recorded with such renowned artists as Joe Henderson, Paquito D’Rivera, Slide Hampton, Herbie Mann, Mark Murphy, Oscar Castro Neves, Don Friedman, Paul Winter and Yo Yo Ma, among others.
In 2006 Matta released a CD for Blue Toucan Music, “Nilson Matta & Friends Walking With My Bass,” an autobiography project with a wide range of guests, including Harry Allen.
Tickets for Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage are $26, $23 or $20 for adults; $15 for children under 17 and a five percent discount off regular ticket prices for senior citizens and members of the New Jersey Jazz Society and WBGO Radio.
