(Mahwah) – The theater program of Ramapo College of New Jersey will present Sam Shepard’s True West October 19, 20 and 25 – 27 at 8 p.m. in the Adler Theater on the college campus. Additional performances will be presented on October 21 and 28 at 2 and 8 p.m. Maria Vail, an associate professor of theater at the college, will direct the play.
True West is a wild and twisted saga of two warring brothers, an oblivious mother and an absentee derelict father, not to mention a typewriter and a stage full of toasters. Set in a materialistic, structured California suburb on the edge of the desert, the play depicts a ferocious psychic battle that, through a strange kind of role reversal, turns the brothers into funhouse-mirror reflections of each other. True West shines a merciless light on the classic story of the American West and leaves the audience thinking about myths that defy retrieval, individual identity and the primal capacity for violence.
This production showcases the talents of Ramapo College theater program students: Jacqueline Byrne, Maywood; Michael T. Clark, Washingtonville, NY; Matt Enhoffe, Wantage; Nicole MacDonald, Marlboro; Martin Moi, Tuxedo, NY; Pamela Ross, Flemington; and Scott Van Der Sluys, Hamburg.
All performances will be in the Adler Theater, located in the Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts on the campus of Ramapo College. Tickets are $10. For ticket information, contact (201) 684 – 7844.
