Autism Expert, Advocate to Speak at Ramapo College Sept. 24

Dr. Temple Grandin(MAHWAH) – Dr. Temple Grandin, a professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University, and author of five books including the classic autism memoir, “Thinking in Pictures,” and her recently released best seller “Animals Make Us Human,” speak at Ramapo College of New Jersey Thursday, September 24 at 1 p.m.

Diagnosed with autism in 1950 at age two, Grandin is one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the world.  She is considered to be a leader of both the autism advocacy and animal welfare movements.

With a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Franklin Pierce College, and a doctorate in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Grandin offers insight into animal behavior from her unique position at the intersection of autism and science.

She delves into how and why people with autism think differently, how sensory activities affect learning, and teaching people with autism to live in a world that is unpredictable.

Among her numerous recognitions in the media, Grandin has been featured on major television programs, such as “The Today Show,” “Larry King Live,” “48 Hours,” and “20/20.”
