(Mahwah) – Ladies of Steel, three abstract female forms by Judith Peck, a sculptor and professor of art at Ramapo College of New Jersey, recently were installed in Dag Hammerskjold Plaza. The three works, “Seated Woman – Red,” “Falling Woman” and “Reclining Woman – Black, Red and Yellow,” on loan from the artist, will remain on display through February 12, 2002 as part of the Parks Department’s Temporary Public Art Program. A reception is scheduled Tuesday, September 11 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Peck is the author of the text, Sculpture as Experience: Working With Clay, Wire, Wax, Plaster and Found Objects. Her work is included in more than 80 public and private collections. Her sculpture has been exhibited in a variety of venues including the International Biennial of Art in Malta, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and at Yale, Columbia, Fordham, Adelphi and Rutgers universities.
A resident of Mahwah, Peck earned a doctorate in art and education at New York University and two masters’ degrees in sculpture and art education from teachers College, Columbia University.
Dag Hammerskjold Plaza is located at 47th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan.
