(Mahwah) – Classical guitarist Seth Himmelhoch, a member of the classical flute-guitar duo, Duo Cavatina, as well as seven-member pop-rock band, Ripe, performs a selection of classical guitar pieces as a solo artist Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. in Ramapo College’s York Room in the Mansion Salon Series.
Himmelhoch is a teacher and founder of the Suzuki Guitar Program, based at JCC/Thurnauer School of Music in Tenafly. He is also director of guitar studies at William Paterson University.
As a soloist, Himmelhoch has performed at many venues, including Alice Tully Hall, Rhode Island College, St. Paul’s Chapel in New York City, 92nd Street Y, and Wagner College, Staten Island. Himmelhoch’s planned program includes an original composition, five bagatelles by William Walton, and the Suite Andalucía by Ernesto Lecuona. Other compositions on tap include jazz such as Take Five by Paul Desmond and Gentle Rain by Luiz Bonfa. Additional featured selections include flamenco music and sonatinas.
Himmelhoch and his partner in Duo Cavatinas, Carol Shansky, were winners of the 1998 Artist’s International Debut Award, presenting their Carnegie Recital Hall debut in February 1999, the same month they released Songs and Dances of the Americas, their first CD. As a member of Ripe, Himmelhoch appears on the album Pretty Shiny Must Touch. Himmelhoch holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
