(Mahwah) – The Vagina Monologues, a national stage sensation created by Eve Ensler and based on interviews with more than 200 women, will be performed by Ramapo College students in three benefit performances Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, February 14 through 16 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on campus. Proceeds will benefit the YWCA Bergen County Rape Crisis Center.
Performances of The Vagina Monologues are part of the V-Day 2006 College Campaign. Our goal is to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups in our community,” says Mandy Restivo, director of the Women’s Center at the College. V-Day is a global movement to raise awareness and money to stop violence against women and girls. The first V-Day was held on Valentine’s Day 1998 in New York, featuring a gala performance of The Vagina Monologues with celebrated artists including Winona Ryder, Glenn Close, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Lily Tomlin, Calista Flockhart, Rosie Perez and Marisa Tomei.
The Vagina Monologues is based on interviews that Ensler conducted with over 200 women about their vaginas. The play reveals their stories, highlighting the feelings, fantasies and real-life experiences of a diverse group of women.
The V-Day benefit performances are sponsored by Ramapo College’s Women’s Center. Tickets are $10 and are available at Roadrunner Central in the Student Center on the campus of Ramapo College. For more information, call 201.684.7136
