(MAHWAH, NJ) – On Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m., The Open Door Concert Series will be presenting another concert in the York Room at the Birch Mansion. The series continues to promote live classical music for Ramapo College students and the surrounding community with a concert that will be performed by the New Jersey-based Madison String Quartet and pianist Itay Goren.
The March 6 concert will feature Robert Schumann’s exquisite Quintet for piano and strings op. 44. The members of the Madison String Quartet will also perform Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 2, as well as pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Miguel Del Aguila.
The Quintet was written in 1842, the “chamber music” year of Schumann, during which he wrote three string quartets and a piano quartet in addition to the quintet. It is one of the most beloved chamber music pieces by audiences and musicians alike due to its divine melodies, pulsating rhythms and surprising harmonies. Additionally, its second movement was famously used by Ingmar Bergman in his film, “Fanny and Alexander.”
Admission to the event is free, and tickets are not necessary. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
