(MAHWAH, NJ) – Former trader, Garrett Bauer, who pleaded guilty to insider trading, obstruction of justice, and money laundering in December 2011 and faces as many as 25 years when sentenced on four felony counts in March, will discuss The Dangers of Insider Trading at the Ramapo College of New Jersey on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Trustees Pavilion.
Bauer was involved in a conspiracy that spanned 17 years and netted  $37 million. The case is one of the largest, longest-running insider trading schemes ever prosecuted.  Just prior to his sentencing date, Bauer will speak about his experience and the lessons he has learned.

“This is a different type of event for the Center, but aligns with our goals of promoting discussion and exchange to make businesses better,” said Rita Shea-VanFossen, director of the Sabrin Center for Free Enterprise. ” It is important to acknowledge and understand incidents like this to prevent them from happening in the future. Mr. Bauer spoke in the fall to our ethics classes and the response was so overwhelming we invited him back for a community-wide event.  This is a unique opportunity, not only for our students, but for the entire campus.”

Bauer, who is currently free on $4 million bail, has spoken to students, traders, and others at other law and business schools and religious institutions about insider trading.
The discussion is presented by the College’s Sabrin Center for Free Enterprise.

The public is invited; there is no fee for attending the event.  Reservations are required; please call 201.684.7042 or e-mail scbe@ramapo.edu no later than March 1.
