MAHWAH – Ramapo College of New Jersey received a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) this fall that will help support performing and visual arts programming at the College.

The grant will support art exhibits at the College’s Pascal and Kresge Galleries as well as main stage musical, dance, comedy and drama performances in the Sharp Theater.  The Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for the Performing and Visual Arts serves as the College’s venue for arts programming.

The Berrie Center will present an eclectic slate of music, theater and comedy performances this season with funding support from the grant.  They include folksinger John Gorka; an Eileen Ivers Christmas with the fiddler’s band, Immigrant Soul; Holidays Around the World with the Newark Boys Chorus; an International Russian Music and Dance Festival featuring Barynya, an Eastern European dance and music ensemble and Les Yeux Noirs (The Black Eyes), a Paris-based octet performing klezmer music.  Tickets for the performances are available by calling the box office, 201.684.7844.

Created as an agency of state government, the NJSCA operates as a division within the Department of State.  The council encourages and gives financial support to artists, arts organizations and projects throughout New Jersey.  The NJSCA is the largest single contributor to the arts in New Jersey and serves as an advocate for arts activities and events in the state. The NJSCA receives funding through direct appropriations from the State of New Jersey and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
