MAHWAH – The Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for the Performing and Visual Arts at Ramapo College will present an eclectic slate of music, theater and comedy performances this fall.

The season kicks off with Say Goodnight, Gracie:  The Love, Laughter and Life of George Burns Saturday, September 20 at 8 p.m.  Starring Don McArt and written by Rupert Holmes, this play invites the audience to spend a hilarious, heart-warming evening in the uplifting company of the world’s favorite centenarian.  Tickets cost $30, $27 and $24 for adults and $15 for children under 17.

American poet Adrienne Rich, who has published more than 16 volumes of poetry and four books of nonfiction, will give a reading Thursday, October 2 at 7 p.m.  She appears at Ramapo College in recognition of Disability Awareness Month.  Admission is free.

Zany Chicago City Limits will present their political comedy cure in One State, Two State, Red State, Blue State Saturday, October 11 at 8 p.m.  This special pre-election show goes head-to-head with the faces, places and events that shape the 2008 election.  Tickets cost $26, $23 and $20 for adults and $15 for children under 17.

The public, especially book groups, is invited to The Things They Carried presented by the American Place Theatre Literature to Life series Tuesday, October 14 at 2 p.m.  Based on the novel by Tim O’Brien, and performed by Billy Lyons, this masterwork of contemporary literature is a collection of short pieces about the character, Tim O’Brien, and his experiences surrounding the Vietnam War.  Tickets cost $10 for all seats.

On Wednesday, October 15 at 1 p.m. Jazz at the Berrie Center presents Portrait of a Savant:  The Matt Savage Trio.  Sixteen-year-old Matt Savage is one of fewer than 100 people known in the world as a “prodigious savant,” a rare form of autism.  This jazz pianist and composer appears at the Berrie Center with his trio in recognition of Disability Awareness Month.  Admission is free.

The Official Blues Brothers Revival Tour makes a stop at Ramapo College Saturday, October 18 at 8 p.m.  This musical captures the spirit of the original Blues Brothers movie and pays homage to Chicago’s rich history of blues, gospel and traditional soul music.  Tickets cost $28, $25 and $22 for adults and $15 for children under 17.

Folksinger John Gorka takes to the stage to perform his rich multi-faceted songs Friday, December 5 at 8 p.m.  His songs, full of depth, beauty and emotion, have gained increasing attention from audiences around the country.  Tickets cost $26, $23 and $20 for adults and $15 for children under 17.

Have an Eileen Ivers Christmas when the fiddler, along with her band Immigrant Soul, brings her joyous and authentic Irish Christmas celebration to Ramapo College Sunday, December 14 at 7 p.m.  She will perform popular holiday music and traditional Irish songs.  Tickets cost $30, $27 and $24 for adults and $15 for children under 17.    

The holiday celebration will continue Saturday, December 20 at 8 p.m. with Holidays Around the World with the Newark Boys Chorus.  Their diverse repertoire includes classical music, spirituals, African folk songs, contemporary show tunes, pop music and jazz.  Tickets cost $26, $23 and $20 for adults and $15 for children under 17.

Barynya is the best Eastern European dance and music ensemble outside of Russia and the group will present an International Russian Music and Dance Festival Sunday, December 21 at 3 p.m.  They will perform traditional Russian, Gypsy Roma, Cossack and Ukrainian dances, songs and music.  Tickets cost $26, $23 and $20 for adults and $15 for children under 17. 

Les Yeux Noirs (The Black Eyes), a Paris-based octet, will offer an irresistible invitation to participate in rhythmic and emotional sounds Sunday, January 25 at 3 p.m.  Part gypsy, part klezmer, Les Yeux Noirs will make a return engagement to the Sharp Theater.  Tickets cost $26, $23 and $20 for adults and $15 for children under 17.
