(Mahwah) – Ramapo College of New Jersey will sponsor an Africana Film Festival Wednesday, February 27 through Thursday, March 6 at various times and campus venues. The opening event features an introduction by Paul Robeson, Jr., who will speak about his father’s life in conjunction with a screening of Paul Robeson: Tribute to An Artist, a film by Saul J. Turell (1979)Wednesday, February 27 at 4 p.m. in the Sharp Theater. Concert artist, Shakespearean actor, All-American athlete, scholar, civil rights champion — Paul Robeson overcame tremendous obstacles to become a true 20th-century Renaissance man. Admission is free.
The theme of the festival is The Legacy Continues. This series of films, filmmakers and speakers focuses on the many faces of Black film. Screenwriter Richard Wesley will be the guest speaker at the screening of his film, Uptown Saturday Night Thursday, February 28 at 3:45 p.m. in the Sharp Theater. Admission is free.
On Thursday, March 6 at 3:45 in the Sharp Theater, there will be a screening of Spike Lee’s film, Four Little Girls. Gwen Moten will be the guest speaker. Admission is free.
