(Mahwah) – Ramapo College of New Jersey announced that the Accreditation Panel of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) voted unanimously to grant the college’s Teacher Education Program “New Program Accreditation.”
At a meeting held in Washington, D.C. attended by Dr. Alex Urbiel, assistant dean for Teacher Education, the panel acknowledged the quality of an Inquiry Brief submitted as part of the accreditation process. Frank Murray, president of TEAC, indicated that he wishes to use the Inquiry Brief submitted by Ramapo College as a model in TEAC brief writing training sessions.
“Teacher quality is at the center of many important public conversations about American education. Accreditation allows us to contribute to that conversation with evidence rather than anecdote,” said Urbiel. “We now have data from a variety of reliable and valid measures that demonstrates the high quality of Ramapo teacher candidates. We know they are prepared as content experts, skilled in pedagogy and exhibit the caring and professional dispositions that teachers need. The mechanisms we have established allow us to continually monitor and adjust how we train teachers to be successful and effective beginning professionals.”
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation states that accreditation is the primary means of assuring and improving the quality of higher education institutions and programs in the United States. TEAC is accredits undergraduate and graduate professional education programs to assure the public about the quality of college and university programs. The education program, not the college, receives TEAC accreditation.
