(Mahwah) – High school senior Carly Dobrin of Tinton Falls, NJ has eliminated the stress of applying to college and waiting for an acceptance letter. She took advantage of Ramapo College’s Immediate Decision Days. Not only was she accepted on the same day she applied, but she left her deposit for the fall 2007 semester, making her the first member of Ramapo College’s Class of 2011.
Dobrin, a senior at Monmouth Regional High School who has a weighted GPA of 4.85 and scored 1280 on the math and critical reading sections of the SAT, plans to major in biochemistry and become a dentist. She’ll enroll in a joint program offered by Ramapo College and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, completing undergraduate coursework in three years at Ramapo College and medical training in four years at UMDNJ. Coincidentally, Carly’s brother Keith, who is a sophomore at Ramapo College, also was accepted at an Immediate Decision Day.
My brother and I are very close,” says Carly. He always told me that Ramapo College is a great school.” Carly visited her brother on campus several times and concluded Ramapo and the joint program is exactly what I want.” She visited other colleges in New Jersey but Ramapo, she says, set the standard.
Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Peter Goetz says Dobrin might be the first student in the nation to send in a deposit for the Class of 2011. As has been our tradition,” adds Goetz, I am sending Carly a sweatshirt to congratulate her on being our first deposit for the fall 2007 semester.”
Now in its 13th year, Ramapo’s Immediate Decision Day program is designed as an opportunity for students to complete the application process and receive a notice of acceptance in just one day. Immediate Decision Days will be held October 5 and 13, November 6, 15, 20 and 29 and December 1, 6, 12 and 14, 2006.
On the appointed day, students submit their applications, have an admissions interview and receive a decision, all within a few hours. In addition, students who qualify for a scholarship will be offered one at that time.
Students considered for the program must be in the top 20 percent of their graduating class (if the high school ranks) with combined SAT scores of at least 1120 in critical reading and math (not including writing section), with no less than 500 in any section and an academic grade point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
The College’s average student ranks in the top 20 percent of his/her class with a mean SAT score of 1180. Those who do not meet these criteria may still apply to Ramapo through the regular application process.
Students who are eligible for a scholarship will be notified at the end of the daylong program. To be considered for one of these awards, a student must be in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class with combined SAT scores of at least 1250 for critical reading and math and have a record of school or community activities. These special scholarship awards are for four years, provided the required grade point average is maintained. Scholarships include tuition and fees, partial tuition and fees, residence hall rooms or a combination of both tuition and housing.
To be considered for Immediate Decision Day, students may call (201) 684 – 7300 to obtain an informational brochure or visit the Admissions page of Ramapo College’s Website, www.ramapo.edu, for Immediate Decision Day information or to submit an online registration form.
