(Mahwah) – Ramapo College, designated New Jersey’s Public Liberal Arts College,” was recognized by two national publications as among the best in the north. In the 2007 edition of America’s Best Colleges, released by U.S.News & World Report, Ramapo College is first among regional public comprehensive colleges. This is the third consecutive year U.S. News ranked the institution as number one among regional public comprehensive colleges. The category, The top public comprehensive colleges,” is subdivided into four geographical quadrants.

In addition, Ramapo College is listed in the top tier (eighth place) among all comprehensive colleges in the north (public and private). Schools are ranked based on criteria such as freshman retention rate, graduation rate, class size, student/faculty ratio and student selectivity, among others.
Ramapo College also ranked number one among public comprehensive colleges in the north for the lowest acceptance rate (41%) and has the second lowest acceptance rate in the north among public and private comprehensive colleges. Additionally, of the 320 comprehensive colleges in the United States, Ramapo has the fourth highest rate of entering students ranking in the top 25 percent of their class.
The college is one of only five schools among all 25 public and private schools in New Jersey listed in U.S.News & World Report that rank as more selective” for its admission criteria. The others are Drew University, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology and The College of New Jersey.
Ramapo College also was selected as among the best 222 northeastern colleges in The Princeton Review’s 2007 edition of The Best Northeastern Colleges. Students were asked to rate their schools on the teaching ability of their professors and the campus food, among other categories, and report on their experiences. There are more than 1,000 colleges and universities in the northeast.
