(Mahwah) – A number of students enrolled at Ramapo College of New Jersey will spend their summer breaks pursuing prestigious research and internship opportunities here and abroad.

• Siquina Anthony is an international cooperative education student who will work in Venezuela for EIS Energy Company.  She is enrolled in Ramapo’s School of American and International Studies.
• Harrison Gilbert, a political science major enrolled in the College’s School of American and International Studies, secured an internship with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation.  The private, non-profit corporation works to expand Detroit’s economic base by attracting new businesses to the city.  He’ll work with project management to rezone several parts of the city using Geographic Information Systems, a digital mapping software program used for urban planning purposes.  The sophomore, who is interested in a career in urban planning, recently received Ramapo College’s New Student Achievement Award.
• Gadareth Higgs, a student in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science, will attend the Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
• Marlie Massena, an international cooperative education student enrolled in the College’s School of Contemporary Arts, will spend the summer at the
  University at Lille in France.  She will be responsible for communication and
  publicity, updating a Website, creating programs and welcoming artists for Les Tres Riches Heures de l’Orgue en Berry, a festival featuring organists.
• Ravneet Nagi has been accepted into the Undergraduate Student Scholars Program in the NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania.  Nagi, who completed her junior year and has a double major of chemistry and biology, is enrolled in Ramapo’s School of Theoretical and Applied Science.  She will work with a mentor to conduct colon cancer research.
• Nitika Paudel, who is enrolled in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science, will attend a summer research program at the Mayo Clinic.
• Sophie Okolo, a cooperative education student enrolled in the College’s School of Theoretical and Applied Science, has received funding to perform research at Duquesne University Undergraduate Research Program.
• Vanessa Faxas and Stacey Lococo have been named 2006 Wachovia Bank/NJDCA Housing Scholars.  Both are social work majors in the College’s School of Social Science and Human Services.  They will receive training at the New Jersey Institute of Technology prior to beginning the internships.  The program, a partnership between Wachovia Bank, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, is designed to influence the creation of affordable housing in New Jersey.  Since 1989 students majoring in architecture, civil engineering, public policy and administration, management, social work and urban studies have worked within various community-based non-profit housing organizations to provide agencies with technological and managerial support. Faxas will intern at the Elizabeth Development Company in Elizabeth, NJ.
