(Mahwah) – Marge Piercy, a critically-acclaimed novelist, essayist and poet, is the featured speaker for the Women’s History Month Opening Reception Tuesday, March 7 at 3 p.m. in Friends Hall (SC-219) on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. The reception is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending may call 201.684.7468.
The topic of Piercy’s presentation is Dreaming in Female: Reshaping our Past and Shaping our Future.” In her writing and lectures, Piercy incorporates her own life experiences and addresses the creative process, as well as issues of gender, sexuality, power and the environment. Piercy will speak on women creating and envisioning herstory.” A reception will follow the presentation.
Piercy is the author of seventeen novels including The New York Times bestseller Gone To Soldiers; the national bestseller The Longings of Women and Woman on the Edge of Time. She also has published 17 volumes of poetry and a memoir, Sleeping with Cats. Born in Detroit, educated at the University of Michigan, and the recipient of four honorary doctorates, Piercy has been an activist for many political battles including the anti-Vietnam war effort and the women’s movement, and most recently, an active participant in the resistance to the war in Iraq.
The opening reception will be sponsored by Ramapo College’s Women’s Center.
