(Mahwah) – Sculpture by Mahwah resident and Ramapo College of New Jersey art professor Judith Peck is featured in Sculpture in Bronze,” an exhibit at the Bergen Museum of Art & Science in Paramus. Cathy St. John is guest curator of the exhibit, which continues through June 4.
A reception for the artist will be held April 28 at the museum’s recently expanded gallery. Peck notes, My sculpture is about people: how they look, how they behave, how they endure hardship and how they find the meaning, truths and joys of life.” In addition to bronze, Peck also works in steel and mixed media. Some of my thematic concerns are about the choices people make and the choices made for them by history, by chance, by the intensities of their emotions and experience. These themes often involve individuals and families, and individuals alone in families.”
In addition to teaching, the artist has authored numerous books. Peck’s sculptures are in approximately 80 public and private collections including the American Art Collection of the Yale University Gallery and the Ghetto Fighters Museum in Israel. Local outdoor works are installed at the Teaneck Public Library, Tenafly High School and the Ridgewood train station. Her work has been exhibited at the National Academy Galleries in New York, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Detroit Institute, the New Jersey State Museum and also at numerous universities.
The Bergen Museum of Art & Science is located in the Bergen Mall, lower promenade, Route 4 East and Forest Avenue, Paramus. The hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For further information call 201.291.8848 or log on to www.thebergenmuseum.com.
