(Mahwah) – The Friends of Ramapo College seek donations of art work from artists based in northern New Jersey to be auctioned at the organization’s annual art auction to be held Friday, May 7. Photographer Thomas E. Franklin, who took the memorable photograph of firemen raising the American flag in the rubble of debris on 9/11, has donated a signed copy of the picture. Franklin, a photographer for The Record, is an adjunct professor at Ramapo College. In addition, local artist Cornella Draves Baker has agreed to donate four of her prints.
The Friends of Ramapo are interested in receiving works created in a variety of mediums including paintings, prints, photographs, and sculptures.
The organization was founded to expand communication and foster greater understanding between the campus of Ramapo College and neighboring communities. The Friends of Ramapo award scholarships to students with outstanding academic achievements, sponsor and support cultural events, assist with special college projects and support students at Ramapo College. Proceeds from the auction will be used to fund endowed scholarships.
To find out how to donate artwork for the auction, call Kathleen Mainardi, director of annual giving and alumni relations, at 201.684.7179.
