(Mahwah) – Classical music fans can go for Baroque” as the Sutton Ensemble, Artistic Club Luba and New York Philharmonic guest artists play a selection of Baroque favorites Sunday, March 2 in the Berrie Center’s Sharp Theater at Ramapo College.
The special program of Baroque composers, entitled Baroque Madness! includes Bach, Vivaldi, Handel and Mardini, in addition to a specially commissioned piece composed in Baroque style by Paterson native Richard Lane.
The Sutton Ensemble was founded by three Julliard graduates, whose goal was to perform chamber music for diverse audiences. Becoming a non-profit organization in the late 1970s, the ensemble became artists-in-residence at Fort Lee Historical Park Auditorium in 1981. The Ensemble received an award for excellence in 1991 from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Performing with the Sutton Ensemble will be Judith Davidoff, cello and viola da gamba, and Elaine Sutin on violin. Guest artists from the Artistic Club Luba and New York Philharmonic include Vladimir Tsypin, violin; Lionel Party, harpsichord; and Katherine Greene, viola.
Tickets are $21 for general admission; $18 for seniors; and $12 for students with a valid I.D. For information, call (201) 684-7844.
