(MAHWAH, NJ)–Rosetta D’Angelo, professor of Italian Studies and Literature at Ramapo College of New Jersey, and Barbara Zaczek, professor of Italian at Clemson University, have translated and edited the novel Mount Olympus by Umberto Piersanti. On Thursday, April 3, D’Angelo and Zaczek will host a book discussion and signing regarding the newly translated Mount Olympus.

Umberto Piersanti, author of Mount Olympus (Olimpo), is one of Italy’s most acclaimed and widely read poets and prose writers. He is a professor of sociology of literature at the University of Urbino and editor of the literary journal Pelagos. Piersanti is the author of several books of poems, three novels and two books of literary criticism. He is praised among critics and readers and has won countless literary awards, including a nomination for a Noble Prize.  Mount Olympus is the third novel published by Piersanti that intertwines two narratives: the first is a love story, and the second is about a climb to Mount Olympus.

“Despite the prestige and international fame, Piersanti is virtually unknown to the English-speaking public and only a handful of translations of his poetry have appeared in anthologies and a few literary and academic journals,” explained D’Angelo and Zazcek.

In the introduction written by D’Angelo and Zaczek, the two said translating this particular piece by Piersanti into English offers the reader a “rare and profound” look into the philosophy of Piersanti as an author.

Rosetta D’Angelo is the author of the book Il Poemetto dell’Intelligenza and co-author of two textbooks: L’Arte di Comunicare and Eccoci, and of an anthology Resisting Bodies: Narratives of Italian Partisan Women. She writes poetry and was the recipient of the 2003 “Jewels of Poetry Award.” She has published numerous articles on contemporary literature.

Barbara Zaczek is the author of the book Censored Sentiments-Letters and Censorship in Epistolary Novels and Conduct Material and co-author of an anthology Resisting Bodies: Narratives of Italian Partisan Women. She has published numerous articles on modern Italian literature and culture.
