(MAHWAH, NJ) – On December 23, 1913, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law. The Federal Reserve Act created a central banking system to reform financial operations in the United States, to maintain the purchasing power of the dollar and end or smooth out the cycle of boom and bust.
Since the signing of the Act, the Federal Reserve has been controversial, leading some Americans to call for its repeal. The documentary, “Federal Reserve: 100 Years of Boom and Bust” discusses the events leading up to the creation of the Federal Reserve and how it has affected the economy in the past century.
“Federal Reserve: 100 Years of Boom and Bust” was produced by Professor of Finance Murray Sabrin with the help of two grants, one of which was provided by the Ramapo College Foundation. Professor Sabrin has lectured and written about the Federal Reserve for thirty years. The documentary includes commentary from numerous experts in finance and economics, authors, and professors from universities such as NYU and Ramapo College.
The documentary will be screened on Wednesday, December 4 at 7 p.m. in Friends Hall, SC 219, and will be followed by a Q&A session. The event is free and open to the public. To reserve your seat, please send an email to msabrin@ramapo.edu.
